Here's the question…

I would like to somehow sync my Pocket PC 2002 to my computer at home over the internet from my computer at work. For example, letting me see if I have received an email at my computer at home while I'm at work. I know I read something about this being possible with ActiveSync 3.5, but now I can't seem to figure out how to do it.

I am on a Static IP at work and have a DSL line at home, if that matters.

I would appreciate some help, or even a link to a "how to" page.

Thanks!

BR

This isn't possible. We've been begging Microsoft for this ActiveSync feature for 3+ years, but they don't see it as a valid request. They assume we all have Exchange 2000 Servers. :-)

I've been looking into this also. It seems like someone might have gotten this to work- this person has the PPC connected to a PC via USB, and the PC is VPN'd into his work.

I've tried to get this working to no avail. Check out the link to Herrera's site in this thread on the microsoft ppc newsgroup:

IF you get this to work, let me know how you did it!

Technically, I don't think this is impossible (since you can sync over a network), just very inadvisable.

As I remember, ActiveSync uses NetBIOS stuff to identify your PC, not DNS. Now, with a bit of hacking around with WINS servers, you might be able to persuade your PDA to connect to your home PC and sync. Unfortunately, you'd have to open your PC to most of the really bad trojans, hacks, and other Internet plagues that are out there.

Jason's basically right: without an Exchange 2000 server and Mobile Information Server, this is a non-starter.
