My thoughts exactly. Is it actually easier to start up this program and click on the button, then to navigate to the control and uncheck a box? Maybe if it mapped to a hardware button, but otherwise...

This has been the most frustrating problem with my Jornada. I can set the back light to all the various options and none of them seem to function right.
The auto control is never right in my opinion and the no auto control works even worse. If I turn it on the darn backlight is always off. This is not a problem without the keyboard attached, I just hold down the power button.
BUT, with it on you are out of luck. You can change the brightness, but never get it on or off. It makes me so mad that I do not even use it. It is such a nice item and at the same time completely useless.

When I was still using my mono Ipaq I often sat there with the backlight going off every 5 minutes at inopportune times. This on a device that could run longer than a Palm V on a charge.

I would have paid $8 for it. But not now. The Ipaq is sitting over there waiting for me to make sure I have everything copied from it to my Clie so I can let my son have it to play games on.

Scott Seligman has had KeepAlive available as pay-by-donation ware for a very long time. I use it on both Casio and iPAQ without a single problem. It does exactly as it should; keps the device aware that it is being used. $7.15 though? Be serious.

Okay, I think this thing does two things at the same time.

To achieve something like while running Pocket Word requires you to uncheck the autosuspend and autooff for the backlight.

In Media Player, the PPC is smart enough not to switch off... so it only helps in keeping the backlight on...

But for that price???

I'm not sure though. Keep Alive then becomes a better solution... unless someone can prove otherwise.

Oh, well just get an iPaq H38xx and the backlight will eventually go away by itself… :(
