In the article, called "Terminal Services: Mobile Remote Connectivity", I highlight some of the network administrative tasks that can be performed using a Pocket PC. My perspective in the article is that of the network administrator and developer. I used terminal services back when Citrix Winframe was the only option. We had a server farm which users logged into using the Citrix clients to run our load planning software. Citrix had a free client for Windows CE at the time. Doing customer support was so much easier when I could dial up the servers on my HP Jornada 430se and troubleshoot a problem instead of having to drive in to work to solve a simple issue.

It still seems strange to me that Terminal Services is bundled with PPC 2002. I can't imagine that many people using it. After all, you have to have Win 2000 Server to use T.S., don't you? How many people use that (outside of IT workers). I'd be interested to know just how much use the T.S. clients get on PPCs.

TS is included in XP too, so you can control you workstation too... I do it all the time!

I haven't seen much of XP yet so I didn't realize they had included the T.S. as part of each version. I may have to give it another look after hearing this.

I know, but it still seems a strange app to stick in the ROM for all PPCs. I can see it as a download but to ship it in ROM? Well, I guess since there was room to spare in the 32MB spec they figured "no harm done," even if they do just collect dust.

I can use the Terminal Services Client at work to get access to both XP Pro machines and Win2K Servers, but haven't been successful getting it working from home to any server with a VPN connection to work.

I'm moving Friday and will have a new network setup at home soon (new router, new ISP, etc). If I still have a problem, I'll be pretty sure it's a PPC2002 issue.

Anyone been successful using the client over a VPN connection?
