Careful when you upgrade, I had WSJ as a saved channel which was free but now is a pay for channel. I could not sync until I removed this channel

I haven't used Mazingo in a while, though I did get in on the lifetime premium service offer they had early on. Now that they actually have premium services available, I may have to give it another try, especially if they keep improving the client.

Hi,

Well I've moved over to Mazingo again (I got the lifetime premium subscription when the system was launched). I tried a couple of times before, but I'd always get pages missing.

Issues currently:
* Doesn't work with MultiIE 2.0 - I have to select 'View in IE' for this...
* Some links don't view in Mazingo but do in IE mode...
* Doesn't seem too intelligent in updating only those pages that have changed - or it takes a long time to work out they're the same.

On the whole I prefer it to AvantGo as the client is much faster and I can now get all my AvantGo on Mazingo, whereas a few months ago this was limited to 50% of my AvantGo channels.

With this rate of improvement, Mazingo should pull well clear of AvantGo very soon.

My 2c

Interesting channel selections Jason has on there... Isn't SinPalm that really funny site where you confess various sins to your PDA and it absolves you or whatnot?

Anyways, I'd complained several times about incomplete Mazingo downloads myself in the past, but to give credit where it's due, I haven't had such a problem since the last couple of versions (IIRC). And now, finally, the Hachette-Filipacchi mag channels work (Car & Driver, Road & Track, Sound & Vision, Mobile Entertainment).

Some improvements could be adding accurate real-time channel sizes, blocking outside pages from custom channels, better process of sync'ing new data (currently the Mazingo download folder on the PPC seem to double in size after a sync then slowly get smaller as you use Mazingo? -- though it's now much faster than before). Also, instead of just check boxes to select which channels to update and which to not update, add a multi-scheduler so you can select how often to update each channel (on every sync, or every few hours/days -- sorta like Avantgo I guess). Especially important given the huge downloads Manzigo allows.

I've also had a problem with the Mazingo viewer where everytime I switch to another app and then switch back (or turn the PPC off and on), I lose the scrolling functionality of the D-pad in the Mazingo viewer. But now with the new version all I have to do is just to tap the screen once then I regain the scrolling, that's cool.

BTW, does it make any difference between sync'ing changed items vs. all items?

Oh my goodness. The sinpalm thing sounded interesting. . . turns out it a specialized sex site for PDA's. *BLUSH*

It is rare to see a vendor as attentive to improvements and updates as Mazingo is. It beats Avantgo for so many reasons, just as few of which are...

1) Photos and multimedia content
2) More reliable service
3) Frequent updates and improvements

Avantgo has the client base, so it won't go away overnight, but Mazingo kicks butt, and Avantgo deserves to be buried by it. How is it, that with less advertising funding, and with a smaller client base, Mazingo provides so much better of a product as well as customer service? Avantgo should be ashamed. :!:

The new version is slug slow on my e310. The previous version was much faster. I wonder if this a symptom of the new graphics, or simply something got messed up during the install?

the start up screen is way slower then the previous version. But don't forget guys where they started and where they are now....they were always able to fix the problems quickly in new releases. Their services can't not be beaten by Avantgo....this is still work in progress

Nonononononoooo!! That's just the default screen shot that Mazingo has on their site - it's not MY channel selection! If it was, wouldn't Pocket PC Thoughts be on there?

Heh, perhaps that Avantgo CEO guy's funny side remark about Mazingo's porn angle wasn't totally unfounded ;)

(just kidding)

And seriously, what was that funny sin PDA app thingy (that I read about a long time ago from Brighthand)?
