<a href="http://www.pelmarinc.com/pocketpc.htm">http://www.pelmarinc.com/pocketpc.htm</a><br /><br />WisBar 1.1 is released in its final version and seems well suited for the Pocket PC 2002 UI.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/wisbar11.gif" /><br /><br />It is available in ARM, MIPS and SH3 so all Pocket PC and Pocket PC 2002 users can give it a shot. Best of all it is free! Thanks to the author for picking up this project after the original author had to stop work on it for medical reasons. Thanks to Doug Neal for the heads up.

The best thing is that there is a setting that the skin color automatic changes to your today theme....like wisbar with a transparant background

The worst thing however is that there is still no support for 2002 notifications... important. The author does mention however this is a high priority in the next version 1.2... I hope he does it.... and if he does, it will once again become one of my favorite add-ons.

Ahhh... I didn't realize that. :-( I will hold off installing it until 1.2 comes out.

Now I can finally ditch PocketNAV. WOOHOO!! :) This also works faster than PocketNAV as well

what does wisbar do? I couldn't find any real description on the website.

It's an un-obtrusive task manager that resides in the top bar hence the name "wisbar" :D

There is another wisbar variant out there also based on the wisbar source code called icbar.

icbar is my preference over the pelmar, but try both to see which one you prefer.

Although this rewrite of WISBar is an answer to my early prayers after switching to PPC2k2 I'm still sticking with PocketNav 2.70 w/ the 2002 interface option. PN is the only task switcher/killer I've found that makes killing ActiveSync easy; drop the PN menu and tap the blue "x." Even iTask says it's unclose-able.

I've been in a real minimalist mode lately and don't want to mess with skins. For me it's PocketNav or when I'm really trying to be a purist: iTask with ZapIt.

But then again who cares...

It's very easy to kill ActiveSync with WisBar 1.1. I do it all the time to conserve memory on my 32MB Jornada 565.

So, you gave up your minimalist approach and installed a task switcher again?

Depends on how you look at it. I also ditched Agenda Fusion and went back to Dashboard.

I change software sets like most people change socks.

Stupid question -- what does happen to the notifications then?

If it is like Wisbar 1, the popout bubbles still show up but once they disappear, there is no way to get them back without closing Wisbar, thereby unhiding the notification icon.

This is particularly annoying for the Connection icon since it is really the only way to hang up your modem.

So which WisBar variant is the best, please? I'm just soo lazy...

Can I install both along with the original WisBar? Yes, I think I'll try that.

Is this a PPC 2002 thing? I've never seen ActiveSync in my WisBar task list on the HP 548.

Disable hide activesync on the Options(2) tab then activesync will show up in your running tasks and you can kill it.

I am using GigaTask (http://www.gigatask.com) because I sometimes need the 2K2 titlebar notifications to be present. It's like iTask except that it can reside in the taskbar in one of several modes (Basic, GigaTask, and Pro). It is also a bit more powerful than iTask and will be able to integrate well with future versions of GigaBar. Personally I think of it as GigaBar Lite without any overhead. :) The Pro mode is what I use because you get 4 icons. Three icons have drop-down user configurable menus and the fourth icon (a standard WIS/PocketNav-like close X) can invoke a drop down menu showing running tasks...see pic below. Beautiful part for me is that the menu backgrounds are skinnable and support transparency so you can actually see what's underneath the menu (depending on the degree of transparency). Like iTask it doesn't allow me to Close ActiveSync...I need to contact Gene and let him know that it would be great if we could manually kill AS but it is protected from CloseAll/Close Background.

Try vBar, yet another WIS Bar derivative that takes different approach. It works with PPC2002 Notification by the way.
