Hi,

In January, I wrote an article that shows ipaq owners how to modify their cradles to charge their ipaq using power from the USB port so they would no longer have to carry around their ac adapter. I sent a link to Jason and he posted it on the main page. Many people have successfully completed the mod. The article can be found here:
http://www.ecece.com/info/ipaqcradlemod/ipaqcradlemod.html

I recently found out that Pocket PC France swiped all of my content and images and posted my article on their website. They did not receive consent from me, they did not ask me for permission and they didn't even notify me that they were doing this. They also formatted my article to conform to their standard page format with banner ads, so they are making money from my work. They posted the entire article intact, with my name on it, so they did give me credit, but the content belongs to me and I want it removed. Their version can be found here:

Can any of you suggest a course of action I could take to have the webpage taken down? Do you have friends at Pocket PC France that I could write to? Next time I think of a mod, I would like to share it with the community but I don't want people ripping off my work.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Charlie

I've sent the webmaster a friendly mail in my pidgin French pointing him in the direction of this message, so hopefully the article will soon be removed.

You know, that's a copyright violation. If you really felt like it, you could sue them. Though by the shoddy design of the page, it doesn't look like they have much money to dish out...

You know, this seems to be a habit for some French web sites - they don't seem to respect anyone else's work. I've emailed the webmaster, and unless he takes it down today, this will become front page news - I have no respect or tolerance for people who feel it's ok to steal someone else's work, credited or not.

We've got your back Charlie! 8)

it's all taken care of now. I got an email today from the webmaster of pocketpc france claiming that he emailed me 3 times without reply before putting it up on his page (which he did not do). I insisted that he take it down and he was very cooperative.

thanks for all your help guys! any ideas for new hacks?
charlie

Good to hear that it got resolved - I was hoping not to have to blast him on the front page. :-)
