Gartner Dataquest says Pocket PCs gain PDA market share in the first quarter this year. Palm is still in the lead, followed by Compaq which has a 24% market share after having increased sales by more than 30%.

Pocket PCs enjoy the momentum. Still long way to go, but we're getting there. Step by step by step...

If MS does not flood the consumer channels with cheaper, sexy multimedia consumer PPCs, it will never gain a decent market share.

That's where the new Toshiba e310 comes in. $399.

Not really. This is not going to do it.

What MS has to do is to create a more affordable, mass-produced consumer version of PPC, stripped of the enterprise software, but with basic consumer's PIM functions (like Palm), excellent multimedia, video, audio, slick games and other software that will appeal to the 18-34 market segment. They have flood all the electronic stores with product displays and accompany this with a high-profile marketing campaign. We'll get there when your father or sister will know what's the meaning of the word "Pocket PC".
