Can it take a 128 mb flash chip?

I'm searching for one on ebay... most say the chips work with anything but I found one that had a table of what works and next to the 3635 it only showed 64 mb.

Are you talking about upgrading the RAM on the motherboard? 64 megs is no problem, but the guys at www.times2tech.com had to write a special software driver to address 128 megs of RAM....

yeah I mean just sticking a 128 mb flash card into the expansion slot. If you go to compaq dot com they direct you to a site to buy memory and you can enter the 3635 model and it lists flashes up to 256 mb. The special code.... is there any problems with it or is it as easy as plugging the 128 chip in and adding some updated drivers?

Oh, you mean CompactFlash cards? Anything will work - no code needed. I have 512 meg CF cards that work, as well as 1 gig Microdrives. Go hard! :-)

There are some good deals on CF cards here:

Just a note: The iPAQ I personnally use is a 3635 (I selected this one because it had the CF sleeve included in the price). I "borrowed" a 128 Mb CF card that I had purchased for my wife's digital camera for Christmas, and have been using that CF card ever since... with everything from Mazingo and AvantGo to about an hour's worth of MP3's, a bunch of ebooks, etc.

In retrospect, I would have gone with the 3765 that my wife got, since it doubles the internal ROM and RAM, and I would have liked to have had the added internal RAM for loading Linux (my first love). My wife likes PPC 2002, so there's no getting her to swap machines with me. [smile] (But I still have her CF card, so there!)
