CPQ approved the merger of Compaq with Hewlett-Packard Company HWP at a special meeting held here today. The Compaq merger vote carried by a nine-to-one margin."<br /><br />So I guess we are just waiting for the final HP vote to be tallied, which could take up to four weeks, but I suspect we'll know by next Friday at the latest. By the way, this is not really a merger, despite what they are calling it. I don't think I've ever seen a true merger. This is an acquisition of CPQ by HWP.

 That remains to be seen. Damlier Benz and Chrysler was thought to be a darn good example of a merger until about 18 months later when all senior management from Chrysler was gone.
AOL/TWX might be different though, because they are soooooooo different. Usually it is when you have great synergies that "mergers" become acquisitions. Not much to synergize with AOL/TWX. Certainly not their email systems.  http://www.msnbc.com/news/727898.asp
