<a href="http://www.real.com/realonemobile/download.html">http://www.real.com/realonemobile/download.html</a><br /><br />Jeremiah Owen just let us know that the RealAudio player for the Pocket PC is now out. I've downloaded it, but I'm unsure if I want to bother installing it. I've heard horror stories about the mess that the desktop version of RealOne makes, and I don't want something similar to happen on my Pocket PC. And there's the question of content: how often do I run across Real content? Not very often. What do you think of the player and it's uses?<br /><br />"With the RealOne Player for Mobile Devices you will be able to...<br /><br />• Access your favorite RealAudio and RealVideo files made available for your mobile device<br />• Drag-and-drop your music files from your RealOne Player on your PC to your mobile device (PocketPC only)<br />• Access news, sports and entertainment updates<br />• Download content to your mobile device including music videos, travel guidance, auto reviews and much more."

As long as you take extreme care in stalling the software, and read every step of the install procedure, your fine. They try to control your media file extentions, but as long as you watch for it, you can change the install settings.

I'll be installing this when I get home tonight.

I'll wait for you guys to install it. After the mess it created on my desktop I won;t risk it with my PC. Real One is no better than Windows Media when it comes to controlling your desktop. And who knows when they'll try to shove their subscription service down your throat. I liked Pocket Divx but it needs work. I'm waiting for Musicmatch to join the fray.

Absolutely brilliant and you shouldn't worry about installing it.

Now, streaming media providers have an interesting choice in that they could stick to Windows Media and have their material open to a majority of the market.... or Real Media and know that whatever you use, whether it be Windows, Linux, Apple, BeOS, Symbian, and now (at last), PocketPC, people can access it.

Top news! Enjoy your media guys!

When I click on the install icon it gives me an error message saying ActiveSync 3.1 or later is needed! I guess ActiveSync 3.5 is not considered later!!!!!

Edited:

You have to actually be connected when you try to install it.

I've downloaded and installed it...it works fine. I'm now watching C-SPAN over my LAN with an ADSL connection. Curiously, under the network option, LAN is not on the dropdown list so I have it set to 802.11B. On installation it offered to overwrite some files with an older version (from the year 2000, but at least it offered), I answered no. C-SPAN is the only video streaming I have been able to use so far. Anyone know of any other sites that stream video for RealOne Player for PPC?

Thanks for the screenshots Boxster. Looks like Real did a nice job with the UI.

First JSLandscape 3.0, now this, is there a new trend of the newest software being ARM only?

Yes there is, and there is a reason. All new PocketPCs will (and are) based on the ARM or the XScale processor(at least until something else comes along). So since there will be no other processors, there is no need for another version of the software.

What do you expect? PocketPC2002 is ARM only. Why would they support old technology? It's not cost effective

Well I've had good luck watching 150kbps video streams on my iPaq 3670. The X-Scale devices I've tried (e550g, Loox, e740) choke on these 150kbps streams though :-(
It works at 22kbps (set to network/GPRS) though :-(
Here's the stream you can try with your device:

It's a feed of the France 2 news report. Very good quality !
