<a href="http://www.zipworld.com.au/~peterept/">http://www.zipworld.com.au/~peterept/</a><br /><br />I'm sure most of you have at least heard of MultiIE, a program that allows you to open more than one window in Pocket IE on your Pocket PC. Having had some limited experience with this program, I must say that it is everything a Pocket PC program should be: it takes the built in application and tweaks what is already there until it works right. If only there were people who could make a similar feature adjustment to other Pocket PC programs, life would be good. I don't necessarily think that multiple windows would be a good thing, but I do think that other nearly-seamless implementations of additional features would be VERY welcome. <br /><br /><img src="http://www.zipworld.com.au/~peterept/images/multiie2-3.gif" /><br /><br />"MultiIE 2.0 is completely re-written, re-designed and expandable application. This single version will work on both the original Pocket PC and new Pocket PC 2002 devices. All existing features from MultiIE have been improved, and many more new features are now available." Thanks to Mark Midgley, among others, for pointing this out to us!

I have eagerly awaited this new version. I had the previous version on my Jornada 548, where I had wireless Internet access. I considered MultiIE the most important add-on I owned. Because my wireless access was slow (OmniSky, 19.2 kbps maximum), I could read one site while one or two others were loading.

Same here with GPRS access. It's not a question of speed only but a question of convenience. I love MultiIE!

I'd love multiIE much more if with a single 'click' I could open the link in a new window instead of having to navigate the feature-rich menu ..........
every darn time.

You might find I already have it in the pipeline, or if it's something new that would be great for improving wireless web, then I'll do my best to get it in (Most of MultiIE features are there to make it easier for me to use Pocket IE wireless anyway!)

So, you want the default action of clicking on a link to always open a new window? Wouldn't that quickly get out of control with windows? I'd like to hear more. MultiIE already hooks most of the link functions, so it could be possible to add this as a configuration option for 2.1.

Cheers,
Peter

I think he means all offsite links.. So everytime you click on a link thats on a different domain you open a new window .. that would be quite handy :)

I tried MultiIE and had no luck with OWA.

I just downloaded MultiIE and found it to be excellent!!! :D

A couple of things I would like:

1. Option to use left on joypad as back (and right as forward). This would allow one thumb browsing...

2. Allow option to default to Full screen, with the top and bottom bars only active for a single command.

Other than that it looks to be just what the doctor ordered!

So Pete, how about snagging the tap and hold, if you are on a link, to bring up your menu. A tap and hold is essentially a right click and would seem an appropriate way to bring up the options.

I'm glad to have this app again, but one thing I'd really like to be able to do is save my Avantgo Mapblast step-by-step maps somewhere, so that I could re-use my limited Avantgo download capacity.

I'll try to get a quick answer to all questions..

1. Option to use left on joypad as back (and right as forward). This would allow one thumb browsing...

I looked at this initially, but found a lot of web sites required scrolling left and right. I also found it was a little easy to accidently push left or right during scrolling up and down. So, I decided to not allow remapping of the joypad. Instead MultiIE can take over the other hardware buttons (not the recorder button on original Pocket PC) and allow mapping to most Pocket IE and MultiIE features, such as the back button.

For what it's worth, on my ipaq I may the record button to BACK, left most button to FAVOURITES, the next one to FULL SCREEN, the next to GOOGLE Search, and the fourth to POPUP MULTIIE MENU.

2. Allow option to default to Full screen, with the top and bottom bars only active for a single command.

I had a more advanced full screen under development, but remaining compatile with the rest of the O/S was a problem. (It needs to appropriately handle popup windows from other apps, system events (battery low, etc), and more. This release will safely drop out of full screen when these events occur. I did not want to make any other applications look or feel corrupted by MultiIE locking in full screen.

So Pete, how about snagging the tap and hold, if you are on a link, to bring up your menu. A tap and hold is essentially a right click and would seem an appropriate way to bring up the options
MultiIE 2.0 already intercepts the tap+hold and adds extra functionality to the popup menu.

I could also make it an option that clicking on a link would always popup the menu (avoiding having to tap+hold for 2 seconds).

I tried MultiIE and had no luck with OWA
OWA uses javascript to open a new window, and control it from the parent window. MultiIE does NOT currently provide support for javascript (although this is being looked at). The only way to use OWA is to upgrade the exchange server to Exchange 2000, which has been fixed by Microsoft to resolve this.

I think he means all offsite links.. So everytime you click on a link thats on a different domain you open a new window .. that would be quite handy
Ahh, I see. Yes, I think that would be useful.

Damn, my list for 2.1 is growing again.. arrggh! :)

Jason suggested I drop the link to my review of MultiIE here. www.compu2go.com/multiIE.html
gives a more indepth look at the program, and a few screenshots showing it in action.

Thanks Jason! (Hope you folks enjoy the review).

Hey Peter, I was wondering, have you had user reports of MultiIE locking up the browser? I bought and installed MultiIE 2.0 yesterday on my iPAQ 3670 (PPC 2000). In PIE, when I click on the green taskbar icon to activate MultiIE, the menu pops up but then locks up immediately (tapping on any of the selections in the menu doesn't do anything). I can still run any other app on my Pocket PC, but PIE gets completely frozen. The only way to clear PIE is to do a soft reset. This happens every single time.

As long as I don't touch the green icon, I have no problems though. So for now I still let MultiIE get loaded at startup, but I don't use it.

Just wondering whether this is a known problem for some users. If so, I won't have to waste my time trying to debug my Pocket PC :)

EDIT: Oh, I got the latest D24 release, BTW...

I've had several user's report this. With the usual typo's and like it took a while to narrow it down to PPC 2000 user's only. I am investigating it right now.

It doesn't happen on the PPC 2000 devices I have here, but I am investigating with some of the other user's that reported the problem to resolve it asap.

Sorry about the inconvenience, I guess most of the testing was done on PPC 2002 devices, and this one has slipped through... 8(

Peterepeat,

I have a iPaq 3635 upgraded to PPC2002 and it just locked up on me after using MultiIE with my AvantGo content... I needed to soft reset to fix the problem. I noticed that the button presses were complaining about 'no top level window' or something like that...

Another issue I have is while running full screen mode - the only way to browse!!! - more often than not the last line of text on the display is cut in half (or worse), then pressing the down key the remainder of the line appears at the top... making that line of text almost unreadable... Is there any way to change the amount the screen scrolls to one line LESS than the current screen height? or add a small (3 pixel) blank area at the top and bottom to ensure that sufficient of the first/last line displayed is readable.

Otherwise, this is an excellent program, and as I see you're working on fixes as required I'll be purchasing the program when the trial times out.

Regards,

PJE

I just installed MultiIE ver2 on my Casio E-125. The full screen mode seems to work only on the current page that's being viewed. As soon as I click on a link, Pocket IE goes back to normal view (not full screen anymore).

Is there any way to keep the full screen mode even when clicking on links?

Hey, no problem, I'm easy.

Besides, the green icon is all pretty-looking sitting there on the taskbar, so color me happy :D
