Anybody manufacture theft-prevention devices?

Most (all?) notebooks sold nowadays provide for a little hole that a security strap could be attached (eg, allow you to tether a notebook to your desk to prevent people from "borrowing" it at work).

Looking at my iPAQ, I see no such security feature.

However, there's a neat little port on the top-left where headphones could be plugged in.

I was wondering if anybody has thought about this and created some sort of anti-theft cable for the iPAQ. The "perfect" device would have some sort of thru-connector where headphones can be plugged in while the cable is connected.

Of course, this won't protect my CF sleeve (nothing is perfect), but would make it a non-trivial task to walk away with a device that retails for $400-500.

Does anybody make such a device?

I think Smith & Wesson is planning a expansion for the iPAQ....could just be a rumor though.

I wouldn't think an anti-theft cable would be very mobile since usually they are used to keep a desktop or laptop where they are. Unless you wanted to keep your iPAQ on your desktop, I don't see how this would help you. Well, maybe for locking it over night, but you might as well just get a little safe to put it in and then nobody could use it either.

Actually, I bring my iPAQ to my office. I have a USB cradle there so that it can charge while it is not in use, and the iPAQ reminds me when I have to go to meetings, etc. Usually, I take the iPAQ with me when I have to leave my desk, especially for meetings.

However, sometimes I leave for "just a few minutes." I don't always remember to the the iPAQ with me. Sometimes, I worry that during those times, the iPAQ might "take a walk."

Don't get me wrong. The people I work with are very trustworthy and reliable, but we have had problems in the past with laptops disappearing. Standard policy here at work is that all company laptops, when in the office, should have some sort of anti-theft device to prevent this from happening.

I figure that an iPAQ, being much smaller and more mobile, might prove an irresistable attraction to people walking by my desk.

I've never seen any anti-theft stuff for Pocket PCs. I would just put it in my pocket everytime I left my desk.

Mine's never far from me and usually either in my hand or in my back pocket. The only time I worried about it when I leave it in the car.
