Priced at only $149.99, the DXG-566V HD is a 5 Megapixel digital camcorder with a large 3" TFT LCD screen. It records video in high-definition at a price that’s well within everyone’s reach. With an HD video resolution of up to 1280 x 720 at 30fps and D1 resolution of 720 x 480 at 30fps, videos are crystal-clear, crisp and detailed."

At only $149, this is certainly a price point at which I'd pick one of these up. It only has 32 MB of built in memory, so the purchase of an SDHC card is pretty much required.

Thanks for relaying that!

It seems to me that the bigger players (Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc.) have not wanted to erode their market share by allowing higher quailty video to be shot with their still cameras even though the cameras are certainly capable of doing so.
Please don't get me wrong, the 640x480 and higher quality of the Canon Powershots is great. I also have the first generation HV10 which is simply amazing but it takes time to transfer the DV tape based recording into a computer.

I find it incredibly interesting that these "lower-end" vendors are releasing feature-based still cameras that look like and become video cameras. Now that 720p flash memory devices are becoming commoditized, what's next?

Interesting but I'm skeptical of the quality of any camcorder that costs only $149. I hope someone posts a link to a demo video taken from this device at some point. I don't expect lower end HD camcorder to compare with a $1,000+ HD camera but would hope it at least surpasses video quality of current SD camcorders.

Thatīs very cool. But no optical zoom, only 2x digital? Sorry, useless to me. Add at least 6x optical, a little more memory just in case, and i`ll be glad to pay $199 for it. I want something like this, but the $149 sony records bad video, and the HD SD ones are too expensive to me. Maybe next gen...
