The device features a 5.6" 1024x600 LCD, 800MHz Intel A110 processor, 1GB DDR2 memory, 40GB hard drive, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Atheros Super AG 802.11a/b/g wireless, 10/100 NIC, USB 2.0 port, VGA port, CompactFlash slot, Secure Digital slot, QWERTY keyboard and a Fingerprint sensor. The aforementioned 5.6" display screen can be used in a traditional "laptop" view for easy thumb-typing with the QWERTY keyboard or swiveled 180 degrees and laid flat atop of the keyboard to use the U810 in "slate" mode. Fujitsu says that its LifeBook U810 has a battery life of 5.5 hours via its 4-cell, 5200mAh lithium-ion battery. The LifeBook U810 is scheduled to hit stores in September and will be available with either Windows Vista Premium, or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/cgg-lifebook-081407.jpg" /><br /><br />While I am still hoping to make the Asus Eee my next ultra-portable, this certainly has some advantages. At just shy of $1000, it is not the value machine that the Eee is, but I still think it offers users some bang for the buck. I particularly like that they went ahead and set this up as a tablet. If you are using your UPMC for a lot of web surfing, I feel the tablet configuration is optimal for making use of the form factor.

They must have fell on their head: its much too dense a screen for such a tiny screen size!!

Its denser (1024x600 vs 800x480) AND has a much smaller screen (5.6 vs 7") than my Samsung Q1, from which I view this site and write this text.

Must be unreadable!!! reading text here already strains my eyes!! so imagine characters that would twice as small!!!

NO WAY!!!

There is no reason for any Windows screen to be unreadable.
That's what variable screen metrics are for, to adjust font and icon sizes to account for screen resolution.
This baby will be just fine for western fonts and the extra high-density means asian fonts will be crisp and clean.
A plus, not a minus.
I'm hoping the local MicroCenter gets it in as soon as its released; I want to see it in the flesh before choosing my next tablet.
Right now this and the HTC Shift are on the short list.

PS; On your Samsung, try going to DISPLAY PROPERTIES-->SETTINGS--->ADVANCED--->GENERAL and in the middle of the panel switch switch display DPI settings to CUSTOM. Then just type whatever percentage you want. On that screen, I'd try 150 or 200% but any setting will work (167, for example). Not all APPS work properly and take their cue from the display settings but those that don't either have their own settings or should be trashed. There is no excuse for not accounting for variable display resolutions; this is not 1984 when everything was 72dpi, its the 21st century. ;-)

The DPI setting is grayed out on my Q1!! Its stuck at 96 DPI.

Maybe it does work on a desktop, but not on my UMPC. And if the FS has the same problem then it will be too hard to read for the average eyes.
