We stumbled across the idea of “large format digital printing” while researching ideas for wall coverings. It seems print houses have discovered another use for the large format: turning photographs into wallpaper for your home. Dizzy with ideas for a photo-based wall, we decided to create some custom wallpaper for my son’s room. We found a local printer offering the service and gave them a call. The details were pretty straightforward: the image had to be 150 dpi at full size and the cost would be just under $5 a square foot (not including installation). It wasn’t cheap, but nothing custom ever is. So, I set to work putting together an image for my son’s wall. The options were staggering – a collage of every baby photo we had ever taken? A family portrait? Those ideas were nice, but I wanted something that would still be “cool” when he had grown out of his kindergarten years."

I've read about various large-format printing implementations over the years, but this has to be one of the most practical I've seen - there's nothing more personal that your own photos, and having one as your wallpaper would be the ultimate room personalization. Have any of you ever done anything like this before?

Hello:

Most commercial printers have inkjet machines that they can do say 42” wide by however long. I have one in our facility and that is a great idea for my own kids rooms.

I’m going to try this. Thanks for the idea!!!
