<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.callpod.com/products/chargepod' target='_blank'>http://www.callpod.com/products/chargepod</a><br /><br /></div><i>"Chargepod is a 6-way charging device that allows you to charge multiple cell phones, PDAs, headsets, and most other mobile electronics with a single power cord. Just pick out the manufacturer-specific adapters for your devices and throw away the dozens of power cords and wall warts that are cluttering your office and home. Chargepod uses voltage regulator technology and interchangeable power adapters to work with all of your mobile devices regardless of manufacturer or model."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/chargepod_photo1_sm.jpg" /><br /><br />This looks like a clever way of charging your devices in a more organized way. 500mA of power is supplied to each charging port, and power comes in via a USB port (presumably connected to some form of AC power adaptor). The product is reasonably priced at $49.95, but the adaptors are $9.95 each so if you need to pick up six different adaptors to use all six ports, you end up spending 20% more on the adaptors than on the Chargepod itself. Still, if you want to organize your charging station, this looks like a great way to do it.

This gets my award for stupidest charger ever. Why not put all your devices in a circle, so as to maximize the surface area required for charging?

Done.

I want something that keeps my devices out of the way, and doesn't take away valuable desktop.

I assume because some devices connect from the bottom and some from the side - so a circle gives you the most flexibility in charging them all.

I get that, but do you see it as an improvement over neatly arranging the original cords on a side shelf, with a powerbar? Keeps things out of the way. This sort of forces one to keep it front and centre. I guess it could be a way to showcase ones devices. Not my thing.

Something like this (http://www.brookstone.com/store/product.asp?product_code=543447) is more to my liking.

I'll save a few quid and buy some cheap powered usb hubs.

Why does the iPod have 2 connections to it? (Pardon any ignorance on my part, I don't actually own an iPod.)

iPods have no side port to my knowledge, so I think it's just flipped underneath and simply looks like it's coming out the side.

No side port. You can see the cord begin to loop in a clockwise fasion bfore it leaves the frame, then reenters under the iPod to end up looking like there is a side port.
