The project I'm working on continues: first it was the Intel CPU (http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/index.php?topic_id=11879), then it was the Kingston RAM (http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/index.php?topic_id=11926), and now it's time for storage: Western Digital sent me three drives for the machine I'm building. First, we have a single Raptor drive (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=189&language=en) (150 GB of storage, 10,000 RPM), and two WD RE2's (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=238) each offering 500 GB worth of storage at 7200 RPM. The RE2 is an enterprise-class drive offering a three-year warranty and 1.2 million hours MTBF (mean time between failure). Lots of fast storage, and meant to run for a long time without failure. What am I building? I'm almost done collecting the parts, so the mystery will be revealed soon enough... ;-)
