The new 704-WiFi presents the highest quality screen with 800x480 resolution and 5x7 dimensions—making it similar in size to a standard photograph. The ARCHOS 704-WiFi is the latest in the company’s Generation 4 line-up, priced at $549.99, and is available for pre-order today from <a href="www.archos.com">www.archos.com</a>. The ARCHOS 704-WiFi joins the company’s 604-WiFi in offering complete PMP features—video, music and photo playback—with full Internet access for surfing the Web and sending email. The new 704-WiFi features an 80GB hard drive with the capacity to store 100 hours of video, or about 70 DVD-quality movies, as well as two high-quality speakers for enhanced audio even without headphones. The 704-WiFi also supports video downloads from the new online stores of leading retailers, giving consumers the flexibility to enjoy their entertainment wherever they want, in their own place, on their own time."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/3817.gif" /><br /><br />This would be an outstanding travel companion for any media buff. In fact I could leave my laptop home and travel with this. If the browser is fully featured and allowed you to use it with things like Google apps, this could really serve as an UMPC for a lot of users. Add the ability to use this with a Slingbox and this would be PMP nirvana.

mm...nah. For one I would bet the browser is very basic and unable to do java or flash. Second, at that price point, id spend a few more dollers and get a basic dell laptop with a core solo or duo processor, and a higher resolution screen. Then I could actually play HD content rather then dvd sized vids like this one. Ontop of that the laptop would overall do so much more.

portable music and movie players need to stick to no bigger then 4". Anything bigger is no more portable then todays laptops, and are usualy more expensive then they need to be.

I'll disagree, this is way smaller than a basic Dell Laptop. Heck I have a really small laptop with a 10 inch screen and this device is less than half the size of that. Sizewise, this is similar to the OQO or Flipstart, but at 25% the price. Regarding browser functionality, I'm sure they could put a version of Opera on it that would be pretty full featured yet compact, kind of like what they did for the Wii.

yea but how many devices "could" put opera or firefox..but don't? even pocket pc's don't have it yet. Nintendo prolly payed big money for opera because they knew they needed a fully functional browser, and opera, firefox, and ie are the only ones out there.

Size wise it may be smaller then say the ultra small 14 inch dell laptops, but this is NOT something you can throw in a pocket, and that throws it in the laptop crowd.

Both the Archos and the Pocket PC have Opera (the PocketPC version is way better than the Pocket IE). Of course, the Archos specifically doesn't do Java or Flash and I would agree that not having these is a royal pain. I like it when my mobile internet devices can manage my servers and whatnot (frequently need Java).

All that said, I like that they've added a touch screen. All it needs now is a CF and SD card reader. Then I could use it to upload photos from my various cameras.

While there is no built in card reader, it does have usb 2.0 host functionality, so you should be able to either plug your camera in directly, or use a card reader with it.
