Quite why it has to be as high off the desk or as deep in its body is hard to fathom, but as long as space isn't a problem, at first sight it has a lot to offer. Coloured in black and silver, the machine really is substantial, with what is styled to look like a control panel running the full width of its front. There are only three buttons, for power, ink replacement and page eject, set at its centre, though. Behind the panel is a large, silver top-cover, which lifts to reveal a cartridge carrier with six, push-fit, colour ink cartridges. As its name suggests, this is a photo printer and includes light cyan and light magenta inks as well as the four main colours."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/epson-r265-trusted-reviews.jpg" /><br /><br />I have an older version of this printer - <a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/articles.php?action=expand,8942">the R200</a> - and I have to say that it never ceases to impress me when I crank out a photo or a printed-on CD or DVD. I love being able to create high-quality projects at home. This unit in particular looks quite a bit larger than my R200, so I think I'll be holding on to this one for a while.

I've been using the 220's for a while now. That has absolutely got to be the best printer for the price. Wonderfull printer. I've got a couple of these on order now, (due in tomorrow). If I remember in a day or two, I'll give you my impression of these new "high definition" models.

Ok, here's my nickel review of R260. I received two of these units the other day, and finally had a few moments to test one last night. I'm currently using the R220, and wanted to see how these units stack up. (I only had a few moments, so this isn't very thorough.) My first impression was WOW this thing is HUGE. The R260 is much, much larger than its predecessors, and I'm not sure why. I printed of a few borderless 4x6 printers of the same picture from both a R220, and the R260. Both printers produced excellent prints. To the naked eye (and I have extremely good vision), I could not tell any difference between the print quality of the two units. Under magnification, It seemed that I could detect a very slightly more gainer finish to the R220 prints, however this was very slight and wasn't at all noticeable to the naked eye. Both sets of photos were very scratch resistant. With an excessive amount of force, I could scratch either print; the print from the R220 seems to scratch a little easier. But again, neither scratched until I applied an excessive force with a metal object. Both sets of prints were equally water resistant. Neither print smeared or streaked when I poured water on them. If I let the water stand on them for some time (30-45 seconds), both prints did exhibit a slight water mark once it was wiped dry, however neither inks actually streaked. I didn't really compare print speeds, because it's typically not a factor for me. My photo printers are located in a different room from my PC, and I typically just queue up a bunch of photos to print, and then go retrieve them sometime later.

In my opinion, while the "Ultra High Definition" R260 is an excellent, low cost photo printer, I didn't see any compelling improvements over the previous R2xx or R3xx series printers.

Thanks for the mini-review! It sounds like the 260 doesn't offer much more than previous versions...makes me wonder why they had to make it so much bigger. 8O
