The X-540 system enables people to enjoy the experience of surround sound even with two-channel audio sources, by including matrix surround-sound technology. And for those playing games using a flat-panel display with no convenient place to set a center-channel speaker, Logitech´s patent-pending integrated center-channel clip gracefully and securely attaches the speaker atop the monitor, saving desk space."

5.1 speakers for $99? I'm a bit dubious what the quality would be like, but if you're on a budget these might be worth a look. I like the center channel speaker clipping to the LCD monitor - that's cool, although it's something only smaller, lighter speakers are capable of doing.

I haven't heard the 540 or their predecessor, the X-530. However, the 530 uses the same speakers as the 230 2.1 system (just more of them), and the 230 sounds pretty good for $60 CDN. Waaaaay better than those $15 cheap-ass speakers you can get, but no, not THX or anything.
