Today, TiVo released the free TiVo Desktop 2.3, a Windows XP/2000 version of its TiVo-to-PC transfer software, and also TiVo Desktop 2.3 Plus ($25), an optional unlock code for iPod video conversion. Initial impressions are as follows: “W.T.F.”"</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/1.jpg" /><br /><br />Check out the article for the full blow by blow. He is a bit negative on the software because it is slow both in transfer from the TiVo to the computer as well as the convert process. If you factor in that he was using an old computer and used wireless to do the transfer, these concerns are somewhat mitigated. Overall, this looks like an easy way to get your TiVo content to your iPod via a somewhat painless process.

Having used TiVo Desktop myself, it really is painfully slow, even with a wired connection on a modern 2+ GHz processor. Add that to the fact that they're charging an extra $25/month for this "feature", and even I have to say "WTF!?".

Ouch, I did not get the part about the extra $25 a month. From the article it sounded like it was just some one time expenses. In that case (and since you say it is slow even with good hardware, I'll have to agree with the WTF. Heck it is probably quicker to record show on my DVR/DVD-R, and just sneakernet it to my computer and rip and copy it.
