However, not everyone can afford top-of-the-line equipment for every single room in their home, so in comes JVC with an answer: the SU-DH1 Surround Sound Headphone Adaptor. This little black device allows you to use any pair of 2-channel headphones to emulate Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound. You can use it with your laptop, MP3 player, PMP, or anything else with a 3.5mm headphone output. Come check out a convenient and easy way to get 5.1 Surround Sound anytime, anywhere for a price that is very affordable."

Virtual surround sound from ordinary headphones? Sounds too good to be true, and all previous reviews of such things that I've read were not favorable. Digital Trends gives the SU-DH1 an 8 out of 10. Not bad. Although I have to point out that while it says it works with PMPs, very few, if any, can actually output a surround sound signal. Most of them don't even support files that support surround sound audio. So bear that in mind if you were thinking of connecting this to your iPod. However, it sounds like a fantastic idea for someone who watches a lot of movies on their laptop. And considering that this baby and a decent pair of headphones would still be half as expensive as the 'hardware' surround sound phones, I'd say it's a great deal. How about you? Have you been eyeing one of the headphone surround sound solutions?

interesting, it should be fine for laptop and PMP alike for dolby digital 1 and 2 since those are 2 channel codecs, but I cant see the 5.1 hookups being used much since I don't know many laptops with digital outs for 5.1 sound.
