Based on currently announced screens, the new television stands to be the world's largest flat-panel set. A prototype was first shown at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January this year, but at that time Panasonic didn't have anything to say about a commercial product. However, on Wednesday the company's U.S. unit, Panasonic of North America, said it will be available in December this year. Pricing was not announced. The widescreen panel has a full high-definition resolution of 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels and a 3000:1 contrast ratio."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/2006-01-05T141158Z_01_NOOTR_RTRIDSP_2_OUKIN-UK-JAPAN-MATSU****A.jpg" /> <br /><br />So, what are the odds that we mere mortals will be able to afford this beast? Slim to none in my opinion. Still I can't wait until these are priced such that I can have my entire living room wall be a huge TV.

Plasmas generate about as much heat as old CRT TV's did. I know my 42 incher throws out some heat, this thing could serve as a two for one appliance- entertainment and home heating all in one unit.

Too much information there!

Many of the newer high-end plasma displays have technologies built into them that prevent burn-in by varying the intensity of the display over time, or varying the color. Most of these variations are invisible to the naked eye, but have the intended effect of preventing burn-in. There's one very easy way to prevent burn-in: turn the contrast and brightness down as soon as you get it out of the box.
