For the record, this 'story' is absolute poppycock. The only reason I'm blogging this is because I got word of mouth some of our MVPs didn't know what to think -- and I want all of them and our current / future customers to be 100% confident we are on track to deliver a safe, secure and stable operating system with cool features (like Windows Media Center, Windows Media Player, Windows Sidebar, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera) with Windows Vista."</i><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/GreenButton.jpg" /> <br /><br />While I have to believe what Charlie Owen says about Vista's development progress (and I'm inclined to, given the fact that a 60% "rewrite" would be a monumental task at this point), I just have to point out something in his article here. Eight hours until you need to reboot the system? WHAT? Are you <i>kidding </i>me? Last time I checked, if you have to reboot every 8 hours, that indicates a serious problem! I leave my XP machine running for days and weeks on end without a reboot, and about the only thing I have to restart from time to time is Avant Browser. I hope they resolve <i>that </i>problem well before the release, because otherwise I'll be sticking with XP. Eight hours. Sheesh. Other than that it sounds great.

Actually it makes sense to me. With a final build I expect to let it run and run and have it do so.

With the beta he was running that "... wasn't even from the main branch for Windows Vista ... if you select one of these builds you typically expect things to NOT work ..." it sounds to me like he was impressed that it held up far better than he expected. Maybe from his experiances with code from "a development branch of the eHome source" and from outside "the main branch for Windows Vista" he typically has to reboot after about 8 hours. Would sound logical to me.

Be safe,
