View Full Version : Archos - clunky, or just me?

From a technical standpoint, the Archos products have always been impressive - lots of capability, lots of storage space, but I swear every time I try to use one I feel like they hired the worst user-interface designer money could buy and said "Ok, you have 5 minutes to come up with something". Does anyone else feel the same way? Any Archos users that got used to it and find it easy to use now?

I agree. They're like big industrial looking things, not consumer products.
I think the Gmini 400 is nice, but it's the exception not the norm.

Agreed. They've always had the best features:price ratio, but their build quality is usually lacking.
The Gmini line seems to be the best-built. I have the 400 and a friend of mine has the 220, both of whcih seem to have good build quality.
In fact, the very first time I held my 400, before I had even powered it up or charged it, it slipped out of my hands and I 'caught' it against the corner edge of my desk, which promptly put a nice dent right in the middle of the word 'Archos'. It would have totally cracked the chassis on my old Jukebox Studio 20...
Oh, I just realized you were referring to the user interface, not the build quality. I have easily adapted to their funky user interface, which has improved greatly since the days of my Studio 20. Besides, no matter how funky their interface is, it's still a BILLION times better than trying to use WM10 on my PocketPC (or my regular PC for that matter).
