In addition, the 512 MB and 1 GB Shuffle models have dropped to $69 and $99 respectively. Smart move.

Impressive move - the Nano has excellent industrial design, so making the same design more affordable is a great idea on their part.

It just clicked to me why Apple still hasn't released an 8GB Nano. High-capacity flash memory is still darn expensive.

Anyway, it's good to see this latest move from Apple helping open the Nano to even wider markets.

1 GB - 240 songs
2 GB - 500 songs
4 GB - 1000 songs

Agreed. Impressive. Too bad they can't do fifth grade math though.

Sheesh.

This seemed a bit surprising.....until I recalled hearing someone predict that the Shuffle's may be declining and/or disappearing from Apple's lineup. In some ways, this is the perfect replacement for the Shuffle, in that it addresses the issues of "no display" that some folks had.

Myself, I was kinda hoping for 6 or 8GB, although I agree that I probably couldn't afford the result anyways.

1GB? :raised eyebrow:

I received my 60GB iPod Video yesterday, and I've got 2.5GB of MP3s to throw on it already, with another six CDs full of MP3s to go. Any device with less than 20GB is just not worth it, imo, especially price-wise - I've recently seen 1GB players advertised for 1/5 the price that I paid for my 60GB player.

It's not about the storage space, it's about the size.

And...it's also about shock protection. Flash memory players will hold up better in rough conditions, like if the user is working out.

Ok, I'll give it the flash argument and the thinness argument. But the other two dimensions just aren't worth it imo.

But then I'm used to 1GB SD cards - I think CF cards are too physically large for their capacity. ;)
