From now on, you will always have a phone handy, no matter where you are. Yeah right, like you’re going to pull this out of your bag and make a call! The first mobile phone-capable camera from Canon will be the Digital Rebel XCP. Mechanically, it is similar to Canon’s popular entry-level digital SLR, the Digital Rebel XT. However, the controls on the back have been changed to make room for microphone, speaker and dial pad."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/Canon-Digital-Rebel-XCP.jpg" /><br /><br />As soon as I read this story, I immediately checked to see that date, i.e. if it were April 1st. While I am not saying that this is a good or bad move on Canon's part, I do question the direction of their diversification. I can see the immense usefulness of a camera-phone that you and I (most of us) carry. But, a phone-camera, especially a DSLR? I wonder how many people would pay the premium. In fact, if the true use for this phone were on a safari or other exotic adventures, shouldn't the phone be a satellite phone?

That photo looks an awful lot like a Photoshop job, but there is one scenario where I could see a phone-camera of value: uploading photos to an online hosting service automatically. Of course, this would require broadband speeds, but there are times when this would be nice. I don't see this happening on the low-end model, though.

Hey, that's strange... I saw that very same camera here:

Look at the other articles on that site. Many fake articles, like this one:

Hey, we've all goofed up so you're entitled to do it too!

The first time I saw this photo (on another website) I did a double take too, but then with a little examination it looked suspicious. Why, for example, would there be two smartkeys on such a device? If the person who faked this shot had done just a little more work and and changed the appearance of the keypad a bit, they might have fooled a few more people.

Hahaha...now THAT's funny, because we posted about this on Pocket PC Thoughts and we knew it was a joke. ;-)
