The new HD DVD players, HD-XA1 and HD-A1, take advantage of a wide range of advanced capabilities offered the HD DVD format, the next-generation DVD format defined by the DVD Forum. Both models offer superior high definition images, crystal clear audio, and the enhanced functionality delivered by such features as Advanced Navigation using "iHD." These players are using HMDI outputs, so I really hope that future releases will make HD DVD available to consumers with HD sets that don't have HMDI.

Don't count on anything changing on that front.

HDMI is electrically equivalent to DVI so all that is needed is an adapter cable or dongle as long as the display device supports HDCP.
You will *not* see HD-DVD players (nor BD-ROMs for that matter) supporting full resolution on analog outputs (component, VGA, or legacy ports) with the (possible) exception of the XBOX360.
Even there, if I had to bet, I would bet the 360 external drive will connect via USB *and* a video port cable and output both movies and games via HDMI.

 Just hate that my 2 year old HDTV is already headed for obsolesence.
