Last month, at a joint press conference in New York, the networks said their internal research found that consumers' top reason for purchasing a DVR was the ability to time shift, while commercial skipping was far down on the priority list. Not so, said Jason Maltby, president and co-executive director of Mindshare Broadcast. "Our research tells us that the consumers want to control not just what they watch and when they watch, but also the ability to avoid commercial placements," Maltby said in a statement."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/coke_american_idol.jpg" /><br /><br />Nothing earth shattering here. Everyone who has a DVR knows how to skip commercials. So I guess it is time to get ready for more of that Coke product placements on American Idol. Guess that is why so many companies love advertising on NASCAR. 3 hours of watching the Home Depot Car make left turns and I'd want to buy a new drill.

I am mainly a time shifter. I rarely skip commercials only because I am usually doing something else while watching my recorded programs. I am not going to stop what I am doing just to ff through the commercial. But I do often leave the room during the commercials to get something I need for whatever I am working on, so I guess I am skipping them, just not the way they think.

I dislike watching live TV now because I can't skip the commercials. I avoid live TV like the plague.

jason, I am sort of the same way. I download all the tv shows i watch, even if it is 24-48 hours after it airs. I absolutly hate dealing with commercials. It breaks the flow for me. I am perfectly fine with watching it after its airdate..I usualy watch it at odd times anyways. Also the downloaded versions are widescreen. Unless you have HDTV, most peoples standered and digital cable are still showing them in fullscreen.
