Lots of sites put up listings of what they think make great gifts for this year. These are often interesting, but they are usually limited to just a few people opinion. I want to do this the other way around. We have a great and diverse group here, so how about sharing your ideas for great gifts. I'll start off with some of my wish-list items.

Sterling Silver Swiss Army Knife
Commodore 64: 30 Games in One Joystick
Cold Heat Soldering Tool
Logitech Harmony 688 Universal Remote
High Speed 1 GB SD card

Crap, my wife bought it for me at HD today and I cut out the UPC to do the mail in offer for the free Wire Strippers. Oh well, at least it was only $20.

Sure thing, I'll just have to take both your kidneys when I'm down in Seattle, sell them (http://xo.typepad.com/blog/2004/01/want_to_buy_a_k.html), buy you your stuff, then keep the profit. :D

Nothing too special on my wishlist this year - the wife and I are heading to Mexico for a week in January, so that's sort of our Christmas present to each other. I imagine Christmas this year will be the usual: CDs, DVDs, books, etc. Pretty much anything that I really want is too expensive for anyone but me to buy. ;-)

I think you vastly over-estimate the value of my kidneys :)

Focus FireStore FS-4 DTE recorder ($1800)
New HDV-capable video editing system ($5K+)
Hi-def system in the living to play it all back on ($6K+)

Deary deary me ... this is getting to be an expensive hobby .

You can keep your Cold Heat Soldering tool. I bought one over the weekend. To say the least, I'm not impressed. I'm no expert (I've only been doing electronic soldering for the past 30+ years and was Mil-Spec trained.) but it would not do an acceptable job for me on printed circuit boards. It may do better in other applications.

That sounds like me too! :P

However for general gift ideas, I think accessories make a good gift. Things like memory cards, to earphones, to mice and keyboards can be bought for not too much money and generally can be appreciated by most who fall in the late majority category of technology adopters.
