The DVR-R100 may not be the last rewriter Pioneer releases, but we expect it to be the first to have real staying power in this newly mature DVD marketplace."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/pioneer16xdvd.png" /><br /><br />Well if you've been waiting for what will probably be the last great DVD burner, this could be it. Frankly I'm just amazed at how fast DVD burning has become and my old 4x Pioneer DVD+/-RW drive is aching to be replaced. For under a $100, you'll have a drive that could last you for years and almost surely never be eclipsed. Sounds like a no brainer to me.

Yeah, it's stunning how quickly prices dropped on DVD burners, and how much bang you can get for your buck nowadays. Until high-definition burners come along, I think the DVD market will cool off for a bit.

I hope Pioneer's drives have improved in recent years. The one I had a few years ago didn't last very long, and gave me headaches the whole time it did work. And their tech support was unwilling to help or even offer any hints as to what could be done.

I've had two Pioneer drives (A04 and A08), and have had no problems with them - in fact, they've been better than the BenQ drive I bought (I'll never buy BenQ again).

I jumped into the dvdr world with the ao8 and have loved it ever since. I got it at a great price too. I can only imagin this is better, though honestly I never run at the 16x speeds my a08 can do for 2 reasons.. 1 is my HDs are generaly not fast enough (3 hds, 1 can probably do it but the other 2 are old 40 gigs and cant come close, and it wasnt till rescently that the dvdr and fast HD shared the same cable) and the 2nd is I like to burn at lower speeds to ensure a good burn. Frankly though I have been shocked by my a08, I've only had like maybe 2 bum disc of the 250 some dvdr's I have burned now. Even with plextor I would allways nail 5 some bad cdrs per 100 pack. More when I baught poor quality stacks (I prolly have done about 7-800 cdrs over 2 plextor drives)

Oooooo! Silver faceplate! Finally, for those of us with un-anodised aluminium casings. :D

Personally I prefer the NEC offerings, since the last Pioneer drives used ZCLV as opposed to the faster ZCAV the NECs were using.
