This contest is a really easy one! Pick one or more features from this software bundle that you think are interesting, and post a message in this discussion thread. Or creating DVD audio discs?<br /><br />I will randomly pick five posts and each will get a copy of Roxio Easy Media Creator 8. The contest will run until Friday the 11th of November at 12 PM GMT -7. Good luck everyone!<br /><br /><b>UPDATE:</b> The <a href="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/index.php?topic_id=9240">five winners have been chosen</a>, so the contest is now over. Hmmm...

I think "Extract audio tracks from live concert DVDs and create personalized audio CDs or MP3s".

I sure do love live DVDs and CDs!

btw, this sounds suspiciously like a contest that ran here a few weeks ago ;)

"Enjoy up to 50 hours of music on a DVD with navigation menus..."

This could be useful.
I've rather enjoyed my experience with the DVD side of DuoDisks and an easy way to do something like that with compressed-audio files sounds very appealing.

I skipped the last two releases but it might be time to upgrade... 8)

Schedule full, partial and unattended backups
From one who knows backups are well worth the time and effort, anything that automates this process is good. :)

Burn a disc and create a disc image file at the same time
Hey, another thing that'll save time. When I rip a DVD to use as a virtual drive, it's great that I could burn a copy of it at the same time.

That listed feature of creating audio DVDs with navigation menus and Dolby Digital sounds interesting. I am guessing that is converting digital music (MP3) into a format readable in any DVD player (even if the DVD player does not support MP3 playback). If so that would be a killer feature for playing hours of music in our home stereo through the DVD player without having to connect an external MP3 player or stream music from the computer to the receiver.

I also like the feature of extracting sound from DVDs and creating MP3s.

In addition to all the features for working with HD, the following caught my eye as interesting:

"Easily share your photos using peer-to-peer technology. Say goodbye to large email attachments."

That would help me by avoiding "exceeds the mailbox size limit" messages from my provider while sharing the photos with relatives and friends.

Automatically? No, I think that they meant automagically! :)

Personally, I have to go with the ability to work in 16:9 video format. (I shot a friend's wedding last year in widescreen mode on my camcorder, then discovered that neither Easy Media Creator v7 nor Muvee worked well with widescreen.)

As a long-time user of Easy CD Creator 5.0 Platinum, it's amazing to see the improvements Roxio has managed to add to this package.

I'm particularly impressed with the new ability to burn 50 hours of music onto a DVD, and to include DVD navigation and menus with that music.

Since I have my DVD wired into my stereo system, this would be an awesome way to be able to listen to my music collection intead of CDs.

Also, creating DVD photo slideshows is a dream come true; I have so many digitial photos, and it's hard to share them with family and friends in an easy-to-access way.

Finally, organizing my photos is a titanic manual job I now do; if this software really does this, that alone will make it worth buying (or winning)....

Please, please, please let me win!

Well,
"Save time burning. Burn multi-disc projects to multiple burners at the same time."
certainly sounds interesting.
"Create virtual disc drives and load disc images preserve the original discs, avoid disc swapping and extend laptop battery life" sounds great if the images are compressed.
"Enjoy up to 50 hours of music on a DVD with navigation menus and Dolby Digital sound." I would like to see as a sample
"Automatically add title, artist and genre tags to audio tracks - even those captured from LP, tape or Internet radio." - hm - how are they doing that?
"Create 16:9 DVD video productions and photo slideshows for playback on your widescreen TV" - now we're talking
"Easily access media files across home PCs and play back from UPnP-compliant living room devices" - only if it is a good server, not like Nero's first try

Wel - seems like this one is almost worth a try again... 8O

Pick me, pick me :D

The one truly useful feature for me is the wide screen format. I've had wide screen laser discs for ages, I have my wide screen DVDs and TV, and I'm tired of waiting for my computer to catch up.

Most of the rest of the new features are far beyond my capabilities, much less my system's (dual dual-layer DVD writers? right!).

Wow, that software slices, it dices, it does all kinds of wacky stuff! I feel like I must be way out of touch with the latest CD burning software, because foolish me - I thought you just used it for burning stuff to CD's (and DVD's)!

I found the concept of burning to multiple burners simultaneously to be pretty innteresting - although it makes me wonder what kind of hard drive speeds and CPU minimums that you would need to do that at any kind of speed. Sounds like that could be pretty taxing on several of the PC's sub systems.

I also liked the sound of some of the DVD authoring and copying functions, along with the ability to rip audio tracks from DVD's - if it works like it suggested, that would sure simplify the process of creating MP3's from music videos included as extras on DVD's.

I guess that it's time to consider upgrading from the v5.5 of Nero that I still use - I feel like I must be driving a Model T on the freeway!

Hi all!

Long time PPCT reader and member.

I know this may seem minor to some, but the new photo slideshow features do it for me.

"Create 16:9 DVD video productions and photo slideshows for playback on your widescreen TV." Why hasn't anyone else done this? Now that I have all 16:9 HD-TV's throughout, this is a sweet feature!

"Personalize every photo and video project with premium content and projects 340+ Special effects and transition 80+ Photo content projects 25 Pre-designed labels 20+ Premium menu styles" This is nice! I've used Sonic's previous versions, and these are the same features, but improved. Most don't think of Sonic or Roxio for their digital photo slideshows - but they rock! Plus, 1,000 photos per slideshow and you can place multiple slideshows on a DVD!

"Easily share your photos using peer-to-peer technology. Say goodbye to large email attachments." Alright! Now I guess I can say, Goodbye "Hello!", hello Roxio!! (I've grown a bit too annoyed with Google's Hello! photo sharing app continually logging on and off by itself, stealing focus on my PC each and every time).

If I end getting a copy of Roxio's Easy Media Creative 8 free from this contest, or purchase it myself, I'll be a winner either way!! :D

To me, the most important feature is the ability for unattended backups and simple system restores. I have seen too many systems litterally destroyed because of a lack of backup. This is usually because of the way many system saves need to be done. Roxio, makes it so simple that no one should have an excuse not to do so.

My favourite features are:

- Create high quality multi-image photo slideshows in HD or on DVD
- Automatically organize thousands of photos and create custom views to search and quickly find your favorite photos

Now I can finally find the photos I want out of the 1800 or so digital photos I have stored on my PC and then display them on the TV as creative slideshows. My better half has been nagging me for months to find a way to display the photos for our friends to see.

Ahhh... Martial harmony at last!

Regards,

Adrian.

I like pulling recorded TV off of my Media Center, this sounds like it would make the DVD editing and creation much easier! (And cheaper for me)

Copying two single layer DVDs to one dual layer will be pretty nice too. At least it will be when the DLs come down in price ;).

Last but not least, printer calibration has always vexed me... If they've mastered it, then it will save me from wasting several sheets of labels and paper for every disc I print.

I just bought a new DVD burner and it came with some other software utilities (from a company that rhymes with "hero") that, quite frankly, doesn't do the job. Now that I've reviewed the features of Roxio's newest Easy Media Creator (version 8 ), I like what it has.

What I like most (and it was a hard decision, given all the new features of Easy Media Creator 8 ) was the ability to "Automatically span dozens of songs and compilations across multiple audio CDs".

I've been wanting something like this for quite a while. Having to manually divide my music library tracks is a very time consuming and arduous task--one that I never did do. Many times I sat down to do this, but quickly realized that it was too painful to go at it by hand.

So, kudos to you Roxio for implementing a much desired feature for me (and for all us media/audiophiles).

Another feature that is welcomed is the capability to "Extract audio tracks from live concert DVDs ". Wow, another time-saving feature from the king of CD/DVD utilities, Roxio!

I could probably go on and on raving about other enticing new features...but I'll give everyone else a chance.

That's a pretty comprehensive list of features. I Haven't found ANYTHING like that anywhere else. It sems like a pretty versatile tool for all my recording needs

These are my favourite features:

"Make high quality copies of your DVD movies compress an entire 9 GB DVD video to a standard 4.7 GB DVD disc" - I hate it when my backup DVD copies turn out crappy. If this thing can REALLY compress the data AND keep the excellent quality, I'm all over it!

"Extract audio tracks from live concert DVDs and create personalized audio CDs or MP3s" - This would be fun to make mix CDs!

"Quickly restore a system without reinstalling Windows® (Internal floppy drive required for full system backup and recovery)" - This is a biggie and would save a lot of time and hassle in disaster recovery.

"Copy DVD movies to DivX or WMV files and compress to CD or memory card size for mobile device playback" - The most intriguing feature, as I am a Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC phone user constantly on the go.
