Music Unlimited, the company on Nov. 1 will raise its music subscription fee by $5 to $9.99 USD when purchased annually. Monthly fees will jump from $6.99 to $11.99 USD, bringing the service closer in cost to Napster and Real's Rhapsody. Current monthly subscribers can opt to keep their $6.99 pricing, which is still advertised by Yahoo, but will lose the ability to transfer downloaded songs to a portable device. Those who have purchased an annual subscription, however, will receive the "To Go" feature for the duration of that year."</i><br /><br />I always wondered how Yahoo was able to sustain that low cost music service, and I guess it is clear now that they weren't able to. While their new cost model is more at par with its competitors, raising prices by double is a bit steep, IMHO. Did any of you subscribe to Yahoo!? Are you planning on staying with it or moving to something else now?

Imagine a user's utter joy as they now have to make a decision on whether or not to keep their music or pay double for the subscription.

This is why subscription-based music services are kinda dumb. I prefer to at least semi-own (a la iTunes) my music.
