Hackers have once again found a way to bypass Apple's lockdown measures to keep its OSX x86 compiled developer release off of competing PC hardware. According to various sources, copies of the Intel friendly OS are circulating through IRC and P2P networks, allowing anyone to download and install OSX on their PCs. And those who have successfully managed to get OSX running on their PCs are reporting a rather startling revelation; OSX runs faster on PC than on existing Mac hardware...even the vaunted high-end G5 PowerMacs. Ironically this means that my four year old Dell system can run OSX faster than my few months old Mac mini. Oh the irony!

Hah! Love the pic.

What ive read so far is installation is still tricky, you need to download some misc software and a few custome librarys. Prolly wont be a month till we see a good boot from cd installer that does it all.

Frankly, I'm not that impressed. They're hacking an OS that has yet to be released on the Intel platform. I'm sure Apple is not finished locking this down.

Been running it on my Dell Inspiron 700M since last week and let me say this: it's dang fast! I can't wait until the Intel Powerbooks drop :)

Does it include all of the regular iLife apps, Safari, iChat etc?

Quiet true, they are hacking a developers copy that was released for use on somewhat stock intel machines so that developers could get a leg up. See what happens when your nice to developers?

Maybe the world DOES need DRM. As the morality of people seems to be somewhat lacking. Sorry just got off the stampeed story.

Anyhoots... production machines will have specialized chips to lock the os to a machine, hackers will still break it, few will use it compared to ma and pa consumer who don't care to fiddle. Life goes on... long live DRM!

It's got iChat, Safari, iTunes but no other apps.... you need an SSE3 capable processor (my Pentium M is not) to run rosetta which woul let you run the apps...
