I have a coolpix 4600, and it takes about a lifetime from the moment I press the button to the moment the pic is taken. The result? One cool baby smile lost forever! :( :(

So what I want is a compact digital camera priced under $400, with a decent screen, but the most important thing to me is that I want the pic to be taken FAST. I want a really fast auto focus and I want inmediate response. My 1 year old son wonīt wait me forever to take the pic. And I canīt wait forever for the flash to reload. So please help me... Size doesnīt matters that much, and if is not the last model on the market it doesnīt matters also...

I've seen the same thing for Nikon's 8800 in the reviews.
You may want to try burst mode if available.

As for a camera for your specs, try the following sites that have good reviews on cameras:

Steve's Digicams (http://www.steves-digicams.com)

Digital Photography Review (http://www.dpreview.com)

Imaging Resource (http://www.imaging-resource.com)

Some of these sites also have user forums where you can get more opinions from camera owners.

You can try the Fuji F10. Higher ISOs means the flash will not need to work as hard. If not I think the Canon IXUS cameras recharge quite quickly (I could be wrong though).

Iīve heard that the Fuji has too much image noise... iīm thinking about a canon powershot S1 ($299 at amazon) of course the S2 may be much better but $500 is too much to pay for me. Anyone happy with their S1?

Like i said, size does not matter that much, i also looked at the canon 300D but it looks to me that that one is form over function, and that is not what i want.

And this is the first time i heard about the ixus... googled it, and didnīt like what i found:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/07/06/review_canon_ixus_700/

So i think my choice is now about buying the S1 or saving for the S2... :( Is the S2 much better to pay the premium?

Thanks for your input guys!

The F10 is the closest thing you can get to a DSLR in terms of noise. Never ever take a brand and generalise it; each brand sells a whole line of cameras and they each perform differently.

well, i did read about the Fuji F10 and youīre right, itīs a very good choice 8O :D

But the just announced Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 looks even cooler... mmm... i now think thatīs the one iīll save for! 16:9 pics is a great idea. :turn-l:

Thanks a lot for your input Lee!
