The Blu-ray Disc Association is touting a new study it commissioned to gauge consumers' attitudes about the next-generation disc format, and the results shed light on aspects of consumer thinking about the future consumption of entertainment. The Blu-ray Disc Association--which includes the likes of Apple, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, and Sony--released the results of the independent study in early July."</i><br /><br />PC World's Melissa J. Perenson has a good overview of the current state of the high-definition DVD war that's brewing between the Blu-Ray and HD-DVD camp. I always think of Blu-Ray as being just Sony, but seeing Apple, Dell, and Hewlett-Packard on that list reminded me that it has most of the technology heavy hitters on it's team. I've been fairly anti-Blu-Ray because I'm fairly anti-Sony, but after reading this article and seeing the difference between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray, I think Blu-Ray is a better option for consumers. This is a great article that will bring you up to speed - worth the read!

I heard about that study yesterday. They say it's independant but it was paid for by the blue-ray people.

The company that conducted the survey has been reluctant to release all the details. Of the details they've released some are highly suspicious.

One thing I heard is that they phrased questions like "would you rather have a DVD that had (insert blue-ray features here) if it was roughly the same price as a current DVD?" Well, duh, of course they would. Unfortunately the "experts" think blue-ray discs will be about $10 more than current DVDs while HD-DVDs will likely be about 10% more.

I'll update this entry if I can find the original article.

Sigh, here we go again. Basically I think I'll sit this one out. No point getting aggravated for staying on the bleeding edge, and when I'm happy enough with DVDs for now.

ditto...

I'm still not done getting all my stuff on DVD's yet. I was in kind of a rush for DVD burners when they first came out, but for now I'm content.
