The Justice Department apparently is taking a closer look at the competitive landscape for multimedia content tools. Specifically, officials have requested additional information on both companies' Web-authoring design and vector graphics illustration products, the companies said."</i><br /><br />Apparently we're not the only ones concerned with Adobe becoming a monopoly of creative software. Uncle Sam has a few questions it wants answers to before Macromedia takes Adobe's hand in marriage. I hate shotgun weddings. Please let this one end in divorce!

I was wondering if the US government was going to raise an eyebrow at this - I'm all for the government keeping out of the way of business, but even I was a bit concerned about this merger... :?

Really? I was actually looking forward to it. While it is unfortunate that Adobe charges exhorbitant amounts of money for their products and upgrades (and upgrades are released so incredibly often), they do make really good software (Acrobat being an exception sometimes). Therefore, I wan't quite so concerned about this merger.
