It's a proposition from two companies steeped in college and music file sharing lore. Michael Dell launched his personal computer business in a university dorm room. Napster is the namesake of the software and file-sharing network created by college freshman Shawn Fanning that started the whole music downloading craze. His Napster was shut down after clashes with entertainment industry lawyers, only to be founded again as a house of good repute for legal, for-pay, digital music."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/dell.jpg" /><br /><br />A smooth move by Dell. Napster supplies the music, while Dell provides the backend hardware, and I'm sure selling its service and support as well. A good win for both companies, and perhaps a glimpse of things to come. Dude, you're gettin a....well you get the idea.

Hmm...I have mixed opinions on this. On one hand, I am a college student and a Napster subscriber, so I can hope my college offers this program to give me a discount.

At the same time, what entices my college to take part in this program? They'll have to deal with setting up the new servers as well as supporting the extra bandwidth. I realize they would save money on their Internet bandwidth, but would it really be worthwhile to duplicate Napster's database locally?

I wish Napster would just offer a discount to all students who use their service.
