Equally suited to the desktop or in a rack cabinet this sleek 2U chassis has a single internal REV drive surrounded by a carousel with ten slots allowing it to offer a maximum storage capacity of 350GB."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/iomega.jpg" /> <br /><br />OK, I don't get it. On top of a pretty hefty price tag for the unit, according to Iomega's site, these disks are about $400 each for 35 GB. With 250 GB disk drives becoming pretty inexpensive, seems that one could do much better backing up to a redundant set of drives.

The other thing is that each disk is 35Gb, but can hold up to 90Gb with compression.

I have used the REV drive as a backup for a client and it really is a slick, easy to implement and reliable backup solution. Not to mention searching for a backed up file on a REV disk is much faster than on a traditional tape backup.

This is a very exciting piece of equipment.

Dude! These disks are like so totally $59.99 apeice. And totally $199.99 for a set of 4 disks. And like, the point is you can have daily backups you can move off premisis.

That changes the proposition quite a bit. I went back to the press release where I found the $400 price and noticed that it was almost 2 years old, so they have pulled the prices down quite a bit.

The disks were never $400 a piece. The single USB/Firewire drive for them was/is $400. That usually comes with one cartridge. You can buy the Rev disks themselves for about $45 - $50 each. I use the system and it works quite well for backup and archival of media items. I'd like a bit bigger disks, but they're coming out with 70GB disks in the near future.
