I think this is the way to go, but I think your average consumer, when given a choice will take a camera that records directly to DVD. Video and the PC still scares too many people.

Here's what scares me : near DVD quality.

If there isn't an option to adjust the packing to maximum (DVD) quality, I'm very, very disappointed here.

Compromising packing quality just to make the recording times seem longer to the eyes of average user is not what I called good customer service.

This is fine for a family outing to the zoo or a graduation but what about that week-long trip you've been saving for 3 years? You'd have to carry something to save the raw video.

And, I have to ask what is "near DVD quality" anyway?

This is just asking for something like USB to go. Then you could have a big old external drive that you could plug into it to offload the video.
