I think it is a great additional function as it may encourage those who would normally be intimidated by trying to get their footage onto a computer to dip their toe in the water since this can be used sans computer as just a piece of consumer electronics. Once they are comfortable with that, they may hook it up to the computer in order to try some more advanced work.
