I just got a new dual-layer burner for my laptop yesterday and downloaded the latest Nero update... now I have to get some media which seems to be pretty expensive at the moment!

Last I checked, all DL burners only did DVD+R DL, so this update ain't that necessary..

Pioneer would disagree with you. ;-) -R DL burners are very rare, +R really took the lead here, but -R DL burners are coming.

This update also adds LightScribe support...now all I need is a LightScribe DVD burner!

I don't see what the benefit of the -R media would be. I've used the +R with Roxio software without problems. I'm not even sure it wouldn't do -R burns, too.

This is the capture of the Roxio choice box (over the screen of this thread). DVD 8.5 is a obviously a choice.

I don't think there's any benefit of -R DL, it's just a competing format that will be coming out on drives from Pioneer and others. There was never any real advantage of +R over -R, but you still heard a lot of companies brag about it. ;-) Ultimately, this is much ado about nothing.
