Before it's too late - it's melting! Photographer, Ken Rockwell, has been providing useful tips on how to photograph snow without it coming out all dark and gloomy looking. Dutiful as ever, I actually left the flat and took a walk round the park in order to try out Ken's tips (in a nutshell: turn your exposure up to +1). Here's a before and after snap. Not the artiest shot, I agree, but the coffee shop was calling to me from afar."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/snow.jpg" /><br /><br />Not that I have much use for this here in Florida :D , but here is a tip to help you to get more out of your pictures in the snow.

Yeah I wouldn't use this technique much in Los Angeles either but you never know. :)

Good tip.
Last weekend I was at Niagara Falls, and I totally forgot about it.
Actually it was too cold for my brain to think properly.
There is always a next time....

I love night shots and also like snow, so when I saw this after a storm I knew I had to try and take a picture.

Just for you Kris.
I know, it's hardly Niagara Falls, but it's all I have in Southern New Hampshire.

Being a novice who is struggling with some of the non-automatic features, can someone please explain, or clarify, how to adjust the exposure to +1?
The Canon has P, Tv, Av and M. What I've tried to do is use M and then adjust the aperture and the shutter speed so that what I think is the exposure meter (reading from -2 to +2) is settling around +1.
Have I got that right or should I be doing something else?

In an auto exposure mode (meaning P, S or A) you press the button that compensates the exposure level and twirl the command dial. I think in the 300D's case, it's one of the two buttons at the back where your right thumb normally rests.
Here's another snow picture, from today, just for you warm weather folks - you miss all the fun!
My daughter can be pretty determined about getting just the right view for the pictures she takes

Thank you for that.
