Should they buy the EOS 20D or save $500 and buy the new Digital Rebel XT - or maybe even save another $200 and buy the original Digital Rebel? All three are valid choices, but let's deal with the last one first. New XT or original? I think it's a no-brainer if you have the money. The new Digital Rebel XT has more pixels (8MP vs. 6.3MP), a lot more features and it will hold its value better. I think it's worth the extra $200 to go for the Digital Rebel XT. The original isn't bad and if you're on a very tight budget I think it's still a good camera, but the new Digital Rebel XT is better."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/eos_digital_rebel_xt_4.jpg" /><br /><br />Can't decide what new Canon DSLR to buy? <a href="http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/index.html">Bob Atkins</a> goes over the differences so you can make the choice.

Great, I had almost talked myself into the Rebel now I have to keep convincing myself a little longer to go ahead and spend the extra to get the XT. Thanks Canon

Absolutely - I'm a Nikon owner, but if I were looking for the best value Canon it has to be XT all the way!

That is a very good article. Although there is a long list of benefits that the 20D offers over the XT, as the author says, $500 is $500. You get what you pay for, or can afford.

I've got a 300D and 20D and I can say as far as how the camera feels in my hands and the way the controls are laid out, the 20D is so much easier to use. Sometimes I'll go back to my 300D and it feels really awkward - the 20D roller wheel is nice for changing aperture in manual mode (on the 300D you have to hold down a button and spin the front dial).
whether the controls and faster shutter are worth $500 is a personal choice but I'd recommend getting the 20D if you have the extra cash.

Having had my 300D for over a year (and about 7000+ pictures) now and still loving it, I don't see much need at this time to upgrade. If things keep advancing at this rate however, my rebel will be antiquated much faster than any film SLR I've ever owned.
