The device has a 5MP sensor and 12x optical zoom (f=6.0-72.0mm). Only format you can use to store your pictures are the MemorySticks (surprise surprise). Personally, I have my doubts concerning the styling, but that’s just my own personal opinion…"</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/DSC-H1.jpg" /><br /><br />It appears like a nice camera, but again with the memory stick. :really mad: Its not on their homepage yet, but Sony is going to really have to change their ways or they'll join Nikon on the way out of the top 5 digital camera makers. What is striking to me at least is that Sony only has two (this new camera would make it three) "prosumer" cameras on the U.S. market. I guess they plan to do battle with Kodak and Sony on the low end, but since when has Sony ever been able to compete on price?

" they'll join Nikon on the way out of the top 5 digital camera makers."

i'm just curious why you think this?
I've owned nikon all my life, and know thier SLR and lens quality. What is loosing them points in the digital dept? (i dont want to divert from this topic, but i can start a new thread if it gets out of hand)...

I do agree, the memory stick has GOT to go. or at least make it optional to use either memory stick or SD (small form factor).

I've got no idea why they can't increase sales. I too love their products and have two Nikon cameras myself. I prefer them to any other brand of digital camera. But I seem to be in a minority as they are no longer a top 5 brand in sales. Canon is putting much pressure on them on the high end and Canon Kodak are dominating the low end. You'd think Nikon could outsell Fuji, but for some reason they can't. And when you factor in the Koreans who will undoubtedly start moving up the charts (followed by the Chinese) it will be hard to survive unless you can grab market share now.

It's very easy. See the current product lineup below the 8000 (excluding the 5400 and 5700) series. Can anyone say "boring"? They have one cool camera in the 3700, but that one is more like the outcast than anything else.

As for the Sony, for a moment I thought they went back to producing SLRs. Too bad it's not one, and not using CF or SD really really hurts.
