I read an article in PRO Digital Imaging magazine about using your Digital Camera to take Infrared Black and White shots. They indicated that there was a simple test to find out if your digicam is IR B&W capable. "Aim a wireless remote control at the digicam and press one of the remote controls while you take a shot of the control's LED sensor". If you can see the LED brightening up as you press the remote control, you can use your camera.

As you can't see the image on the LCD, does anyone know if the Rebel will capture IR light?

There is a IR filter installed.

I don't know what the cutoff is.

There are a few options. Cannon just relased a new 20D without a IR filter.

ALso there is a company that will remove yours (Rebel included) or remove and install an inhanced filter.

You could do your IR remote test with a 10 second exposure. You should get a bright spot if the IR is getting to the sensor.
