If we were betting, we'd say "yes" - at least, something very much like the company's new Digital Music System will soon come to replace the oversized stereo components that have dominated home audio for decades. Given the success of the iPod, it seems only natural that hard disk-based music players will become more common, and they'll be accessed using iPod-like menuing systems, existing speakers and headphones, and soon enough, wireless technologies."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/sdc1.jpg" /><br /><br />You'll want to check out this very complete review from iPodLounge. If Apple were to release a stereo system, the Sonos Digital Music System would be it.

I've heard a lot of good things about this system as well. Apple is actually in a pretty good position however to leverage the iPod/iTunes combo right into this kind of integration.

Simply add (I'm assuming it would be that simple) WiFi to the next gen iPods. Include software similar to the Sonos sytem on the iPod's ROM, let it all communicate with an AirPort Express with AirTunes hooked up and you're there.

Once the iPod has WiFi, now provide a mobile iTunes music store and now you're really talking.
