I've been using a TiVo with this update for about a month now and have experienced the problems they are describing. Sometimes the menus can be a little slow to open, sometimes when switching channels the picture freezes for a second and then starts up. They can be a little annoying, but I wouldn't go back to the old version if you paid me because of the TiVoToGo features.

The problems aren't that big of a deal and I definatly do not feel like a guinea pig. I knew I was adopting this early and problems like this aren't unexpected. The annoyances haven't changed how I use, nor how I feel about the TiVo one iota.

Sounds like TiVo has a handle one the situation and it will be fixed in due time. Until then I'll wait the extra second once in a while and I'll continue to move my favorite shows to my PC. That ability isn't something I would give up now, even for the cost of a momentary delay in menu openings.

It's my understanding that you have to ask TiVo to get on the early adopter's list via the web page. Is this not the case? If it is, then you're a voluntary beta tester, not a guinea pig.

That wasn't mentioned in the story or at least not when I read it...
If that was the case, then I'm very wrong in my above statements. The News.com article sounded to me like the updates were forced upon certain customers, from the POV I read it. Maybe it is time to recalibrate my glasses again...

Don't forget about us DirecTV TiVo users who are again left out in the cold. :(

No updates for us.....

When I signed up for the priority list, it was the day they released TiVoToGo. There was no mention of it being a beta test. It was more of a rolling release so they wouldn't be overwhelmed right away, similar to what MS did with SP2. As far as I knew, it was version 1.0 of TTTG.

Here is the priority list page, no mention of this being a beta release.

If TiVo did use the priority list as a beta without telling people, that is wrong.

Yeah, you're right, it doesn't say anything about a beta

While it is true that people elected to get the upgrade, and it wasn't forced (yet) it's probably not fair that it's so buggy.

I've been using the updated version too for a couple of weeks. I don't see the picture freezing thing (not using a set top cable box), but my menus have slowed down. It's really no big deal as it's not really all that slow. I think the article overplays the whole issue.
