Orb's technology takes care of the rest. Orb's technology determines the best format, codec, bit rate, display capabilities, and network bandwidth available for a particular cell phone, PDA or laptop to view or hear the content. The media is streamed securely from the user's home PC to the user's device to provide fast mobile media access. Well check out Orb which makes sharing your content over the web. Why pay others for watching shows, listening to music or podcasts or browse your photos? Just download Orb to your MCE and free yourself.

Frankly this technology could change how we use content on mobile phones and PDAs. Why buy music from Sprint when you can buy it from iTunes or Napster? Why pay AT&T money to watch ESPN when you can record the shows yourself?

It's a great idea. I hope they stay with the web interface since it's so universal. The worst thing to happen to it would be for it to be tied directly to some application only.

Phil Torrone talked about this on the last Engadget podcast, too. But unlike Phil, I think an iTunes/WMP tool would be worse, since then you would need to have a cell phone/PDA/etc version of that software to view your content.

Can't we do this with Beyond TV (Snapstream)? Why pay for it when you could configure this for yourself? I guess if you don't know much about setting things up this would be a good solution....

Well for one, Orb lets you do this without having to keep your home computer on and exposed to the net for you to connect to.

Unlike Beyond TV, this is designed to be a personal media server. It does this better than any other product I've seen.
