The service will be integrated into the Web site's popular DVD store, and rental customers will receive 10 percent off DVD purchases. "Amazon is determined to be the best place to rent DVDs--online or off," Chief Executive Jeff Bezos said Thursday. DVD rental services allow customers to keep a set number of DVDs at one time for a monthly fee, with no late charges. They are managed online, but customers receive and return their movies through postal mail."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/images/amazon_rent.gif" /><br /><br />This is really exciting news and I can't wait for Amazon to launch the service here in North America.

Amazon has the kind of reach in the consumer market that could allow them to quickl dominate the market if they have a compelling offering. We'll see how it does in the UK!

That's why I'm excited by this news. Amazon has a lot or reach, and its name lends the same credibility to consumer online DVD rental that Wal-mart has. I can tell you from first hand experience that Wal-mart is giving Netflix a serious run for its money NOT because they have a better service..but because they have a trusted brand name. Consumers know Wal-mart. They embrace and trust it. That is partly why I chose them for my DVD rental needs as well. It will be interesting to see if Amazon has some new angle on this medium, and whether they have an ace up their sleeve to challenge Netflix and Wal-Mart.

By the way...is NO ONE going to say anything about my gay Spiderman avatar? I thought sure I would rouse someone's spirit with that.

Well, let me be the first to comment. 8)

I've seen that one many times, but I think you should find the GIF with the full dance to get rid of that annoying blip that occurs when the animation finishes and starts again. I actually like that big, brown, animated er.. *thing* of an avatar you had before. :P
